Kingsway Football Club will host a tryout session on Monday for women interested in joining the Perth Football League’s inaugural women’s team next year.
Players can be up to 17 years old, with no maximum age limit, and of any ability ranging from experienced WAFLW to those who have never played a game before.
West Perth women’s player Sara Lewis, who has played over 100 WAFLWs, has already been named head of women’s football, and coaches will be appointed in the near future.
Arrival at the club at 5.30 p.m. for a departure at 6 p.m.
Club director of football Scott Howie said developing a women’s team would create a path for the girls at the junior club to continue in the sport at Kingsway.
“We have a lane for the junior boys to go from Auskick to the seniors, and now we will have a lane for the girls as well,” Mr. Howie said.
He said that while they have generated some interest so far and have recently signed a few key WAFLW players, they are hoping to attract 20 to 30 women on his first night.
Training will take place at Kingsway Football Club on Mondays and Thursdays, with matches on Saturdays.
Interested players can contact Mr Howie on 0432 568 550 or follow the Kingsway Women’s Football Club Facebook page.
