If you’ve been paying any attention to mxdwn in recent years, you already know that Night Club is one of our favorite rising stars. They got our Best New Artist designation in 2018 and we’ve covered just about everything they’ve done since. They’ve managed to truly stand out in a world always crowded with dark, electronic music with their thoughtful lyrics and dynamic compositions, merging melancholy imagery with unforgettable beats, sonic textures, and of course, unforgettable vocal hooks.
Today we are proud to present the duo’s latest single, “Miss Negativity”, which judging by the title is yet another exercise in the Night Club’s careful balance between dark instrumental themes and light and sometimes light vocals. playful Emily Kavanaugh. In addition to the new song, the duo – which includes Mark Brooks and Kavanaugh – have announced a new album. Die Die Lullaby, which will be released on October 9, 2020. The duo’s third disc, it follows that of 2018 Scary world.
The song is accompanied by an intelligent video which takes up the title of the song, “Miss Negativity”. Kavanaugh is dressed as a pageant contestant, singing and dancing to the music on stage. However, it is evident from the jump that there is just something a little disabled about this pagaent. Behind the translucent stage curtain, a large cross is visible, the lighting is eerily dark and oh yeah – the judges are naked white marble models, staring at Kavanaugh sashay around the stage with conspicuously blank expressions on their blank faces.
After the chorus, which features lyrics like “So call me Miss Negativity / Dreams shattered in my head / I was crowned with my own misery / Who can save me from this toxicity? / Before my heart died, ”Kavanaugh shows off his special talents, including awkwardly playing a skeleton puppet and sitting down for a keyboard solo. As the pitch of Kavanaugh’s voice is digitally lowered during the song’s conclusion, the imagery takes on less of a dark theme and more horror – think Carrie. Everything is extremely entertaining and well done, watch the video below:

“Miss Negativity” is the first single from our upcoming third LP Die Die Lullaby, the group said. “We wanted the video to capture the feeling of a feverish dream where you are trapped in your own personal hell. Struggling to find positivity in a world gone wrong.
Last year the band released the single “Your Addiction”, for which we created the music video. The group also toured in 2019 before the coronavirus pandemic suspended all touring. It was the opening of A Perfect Circle where we first met the band, where they impressed by performing in front of Tricky and Maynard’s alternative progressive rock super group James Keenan.
