North Ayrshire: Veteran motorcycle club Brothers in Arms set up headquarters

A VETERANS club for motorcyclists as well as service personnel have now established their base in the Three Cities after their recent participation in Remembrance.

Legion members expressed joy when the Brothers in Arms MCC – a Scotland-wide motorcycling group made up of veterans and serving military – set up headquarters in Stevenston.

The band, whose clubhouse is based in the Ardeer Industrial Estate, already had a ride before the start of the November Remembrance Parade, then joined us for the act of remembrance at the memorial in Salt coats.

The Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS) Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Stevenston Branch and the Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club (AFVBC) Saltcoats also wish everyone in the three towns and the wider North Ayrshire community a Happy New Year.

President Paul Coffey said: “2021 has been a busy year for us, keeping our members and families safe while helping out in the local neighborhood where we could.

“We have responded to requests from outside agencies for assistance regarding the well-being of veterans, both physical and mental.

“This has unfortunately included helping families following the death of a veteran.

“There have been many positive results from our projects throughout the year and we are very grateful for the support shown and given by members of the public, other groups, funding bodies and the council.

“2022 is shaping up to be even busier with the progress of planned work on the Three Cities War Memorials, which we are working to complete in time for our major memorials.

“In addition to the regular annual Legion services and parades, there will be events and commemorations associated with the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War, the 100th anniversary of the unveiling and dedication of the Saltcoats War Memorial, and we’ll be supporting the community with the Queen’s 70th Birthday Celebrations.

“All of this alongside the safety of our veterans, our families and our caregivers.”

If you’re a veteran and can still handle the jokes, please join the AFVBC at the Melbourne Café in Saltcoats every Monday morning from 9am-11am.
