Nottinghamshire awarded Luke Fletcher a testimonial year for 2023, following the most productive season of his county career to date.
The testimonial was awarded by the club’s General Committee and was announced by President Jeff Moore at last night’s AGM.
The 33-year-old finished 2021 with 66 scalps in first-class cricket at an average of 14.90 as the Greens and Golds secured a third place finish in the LV=Insurance County Championship.
His achievements have been rewarded with a new three-year contract, which will extend his association with the club until at least the end of the 2024 season.
He was named the club’s Player of the Season, while also winning Cricket Writers Club and PCA awards covering the red ball game.
Capped by the club in 2014, Fletcher’s Nottinghamshire career to date has reported 576 wickets in 285 appearances across all game formats.
“Receiving a year of testimony is a great honor and something I never imagined would happen to me,” he said.
“The last two players to receive one are Samit Patel and Stuart Broad. They’re club legends, so I’m in good company there. To be honest, it’s really humbling and – when you think about it – quite moving.
“From my teammates and coaching staff to the members and everyone else involved with the club, everyone has helped make my entire career so memorable, and there is still more to come from me.”
Mick Newell, who has worked with Fletcher throughout his career as a Nottinghamshire player, believes the year’s testimonial award is worthy of the fast bowler’s popularity among the Trent Bridge faithful.
“Luke has been immensely popular throughout his time at Trent Bridge,” the Cricket manager said. “He’s the only player I know who gets applause for scoring a swing!”
“He gets that level of affection because of his personality and because he clearly cares so deeply for the club, but also because he’s played with quite a bit of talent and success for a long time.
“In 2023, we wish him all the best for his testimonial year. In the meantime, I know he is extremely committed to helping the team have another successful season in all formats on the pitch this summer.
