Report: Club have now quit over ‘world-class’ player leaving this summer amid interest from Liverpool

Benfica are resigned to the exit of Darwin Nunez this summer amid interest from Liverpool among other clubs.
Reports have been circulating everywhere that Liverpool are keen on the Uruguayan hitman, but he would likely cost the club a record fee.
The Independent claim that Benfica know Nunez will leave this summer and will let him go as soon as someone matches his £85million asking price.
Manchester United are also among the enthusiastic clubs, but the Reds can offer Champions League football and a stable club to fit into, with a clear philosophy.
Why do the most expensive transfers always fail?
Benfica resigned for the exit of Nunez
The report says:Benfica are resigned to losing Nunez given the level of interest in the Uruguay international.
“Although he is holding out for a fee in the region of €100m (£85m).
“Liverpool have yet to formalize their interest and are understood be reluctant to get involved in a bidding war.“
A potential complication for Benfica could arise should Nunez identify Liverpool as his preferred destination but the Reds fail to pay the huge fee required to sign him.
But it appears the price hasn’t deterred Liverpool despite their club record fee standing at £75m which they paid to buy Virgil van Dijk.
Nunez, who has been branded a “world-class” talent by Benfica boss Jorge Jesus, has been linked with a number of other clubs.
But Liverpool should be confident in their pulling power after a hugely successful season, although it remains to be seen what Nunez does next.
