Saanich Lacrosse Club opens affordable registrations to boost participation

$ 46 in insurance fees, the only cost for five- and six-year-olds

The Saanich Lacrosse Association seeks to make sport more affordable and accessible for families with young children.

The association has opened registrations for its mini-tyke division, offering a reduced rate of $ 46 for players ages five and six – the cost of insurance only – while waiving all other associated fees, said President Andy Stuart.

“COVID has been a challenge for sport and our younger age groups haven’t registered as much last year,” he said. “We created this low cost entry to encourage kids to come and try lacrosse. “

The non-profit sports group aims to enable children and families in all financial situations to participate.

Creating greater accessibility to sport is important for the mental and physical health of children who, more than ever, need an active outlet and some form of socialization, said Stuart.

“We want parents and kids to try the sport without commitment – we just want them to be able to try it out and see if they like it.”
