Sodbury Tennis Club unveils £30,000 playing court
A NEW play area has been installed at a tennis club in Chipping Sodbury.
Over £30,000 has been secured in funding for the new area which club officials say will create more opportunities for children and young people to take part in sport at the club.
The area consists of an artificial grass surface for a mini “red ball” court, an outdoor warm-up area for table tennis and basketball, as well as a mural with targets courts on the peripheral training wall.
The tennis club has redeveloped an area of land within the site boundaries to provide the additional facilities.
Funding for this £36,150 project was provided in part by a £21,150 grant from South Gloucestershire Council from Section 106 funds created through the adjacent Cotswold Homes development planning process. The remaining monies came from club funds.
Gordon Runcie of Sodbury Tennis Club said: “We are truly grateful for the support of South Gloucestershire Council and the Chipping Sodbury Town Trust to help us deliver this project.
“We hope the new facilities will inspire more young people to play sport and give all club members a boost by creating a fantastic fun space to use in all weathers and all year round”
