The Interact Club at Eureka Springs High School presented two checks on Monday, May 2. The first was a $2,000 check to Samaritan’s Feet. Cathy Handley of the Rotary Club of Eureka Springs noted that before school starts in August, there will be a shoe giveaway for students who need a new pair of shoes. In addition, with the help of other donors, a Samaritan locker will be created for students who may need new shoes at any time during the school year.
The second check for $500 was given to ESHS teacher Mr. Runnersmith and the Eureka Springs High School Student Council to help fund their Memorial Scholarships again this year.
This school year, Rotary Interact will have donated more than $4,900 to charitable causes. The Rotary Interact Club of Eureka Springs is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Eureka Springs and Holiday Island. EST teacher Adam Louderback has been the club’s school counselor for eight years. During this period, over $26,000 was raised and distributed to help those in need. The Rotary Interact program teaches high school students about the Rotary motto, “Service Before Self.” Students learn the importance of volunteering to help others while having fun and working as a team.
