‘The Women of TONTA Club’ shows the hilarious side of civic women’s groups – Manila Bulletin

The challenges, friendship and the hilarious side of female civic groups are revealed in “The Women of TONTA Club,” a comedy film airing on KTX and Upstream PH starting December 30.
This debut presentation from Kapitana Entertainment Media, run by Xion Lim, stars Nova Villa, Tetchie Agbayani, and Tina Paner as members of the fictional female organization called The One N True Alliance or TONTA Club, for short.

Nova is Marlyn, a CEO of her own company who wants to be famous on the social scene. Meanwhile, Tetchie is the Aida shoe entrepreneur whose life is seemingly perfect as she has a supportive husband Basilio (Efren Reyes Jr. in perhaps his very first romantic role) and an obedient daughter. And then there’s Lani, who is played by Tina Paner, who works hard as a real estate and insurance agent to pay for her sick husband’s medical bills. Together, the three ladies attempt to keep the TONTA club afloat through downsizing, unsuccessful projects, identity conflicts and personal hardships.

“I was inspired to make this film because I personally know members of women’s groups and I know how hard they work to help the less fortunate despite the hardships they go through. Often times they are not recognized for their efforts, ”said executive producer Rossana Hwang, who also co-wrote the film with Norman Boquiren.

As well as sharing the very special world of women’s groups, the producer would like to give the film as a gift to Filipinos all over the world as it is being shown worldwide through the KTX and Upstream PH video-on-demand platforms. “The world is cold, tired and depressed,” she said. “I want the movie to make people laugh even for a moment.”
