For the third year in a row, Veggies to Table has donated thousands of seed packets to local pantries, schools and partners, giving community members a chance to start their own garden and grow their own food. . Seeds were donated to the Jefferson Area Community Pantry, Boothbay Area Pantry, Newcastle Ecumenical Pantry, Y FARMS, Wiscasset Middle High School and local families. Over 2,000 packets of seeds have been donated this year alone, and our goal is to donate even more next year.
If you haven’t received seeds and would like some, come to Wiscasset McDonald’s from 4-7 p.m. on April 28 for a fundraiser hosted by Wiscasset Middle High and McDonald’s. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Veggies to Table to help eradicate hunger in our community. With more than 12% of Lincoln County residents and one in four children not having enough to eat each day, you can help us make a difference. Students will distribute seed packets to community members so that more people can plant and cultivate this spring.
Thanks to Hart Seed Company, Botanical Interests, High Mowing Seeds Sow True Seeds, Johnny’s Seeds and Hudson Valley Seed Company for their support in donating seeds to us.
It’s not too late to join Veggies to Table for their April Virtual Supper Club on 2-6 p.m. Guest speaker Irene Brady Barber from the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens will speak on “native edibles for humans and pollinators.”
