WILDER BASEBALL CLUB: Seniors play hard after sweep

YAKIMA — Wilder Baseball Club’s senior team rebounded from a tough opening day to lead a strong Yakima Pepsi-Pak team to eight innings Sunday.

Wilder lost Sunday’s game 5-4, but the team’s play was much improved from Saturday. In Saturday’s games, Wilder had only nine players available due to graduation events and SAT tests. Wilder lost both games 10-0. Coach Zac Moore said Wilder shot well in those games, but defensive lapses hurt the team.

Pepsi-Pak is the defending champion of the American Legion in Washington State.

On Sunday, the team had more of its regular players. Landon Seibel, a Port Angeles grad who attends Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Minnesota, and Beckett Jarnagin pitched Wilder, keeping Pepsi Pak in check.

“The mistakes at the end cost us, but it was a big turnaround,” Moore said.

A Friday game against NW Sting collapsed after three innings and will be rescheduled.

Wilder has a number of games scheduled at Civic Field this weekend. They are scheduled to play Lakeside BR at 3:30 p.m. and NW Sting at 6 p.m. Saturday and Lakeside BR at 10 a.m. Sunday and NW Sting at 3 p.m. Sunday. These are Zone 1 AAA league games.
