Woodland Library Rose Club announces scholarship winner – Daily Democrat

The Woodland Library Rose Club recently announced India Pilar Fischer as the winner of the 2022 Roberta Ochoa Memorial Scholarship at their monthly meeting earlier this month.
Fischer, the granddaughter of Rose Club member Nancy Fischer, graduated from Pioneer High School in Woodland with a grade point average of 4.3 and placed 11th academically in her class of 365 students. She has won numerous regional public speaking awards as a Skills USA participant, of which she was also a cadet in her junior and senior years.
She has been a member of the Woodland Wreckers swim team and a member of the Pioneer High School varsity swim team for the past four years. Fischer also served as secretary of the school’s environmental group and volunteered with the Teens Helping Seniors organization while at Pioneer.
She will be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this fall. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded in memory of Roberta (Bobbie) Ochoa, who served and led the Rose Club for many years before her death in 2012.
Scholarships are awarded to students based on their academic record, extracurricular activities, and moral character. The recipient must also be a parent of a Rose Club member.
A portion of the proceeds from the club’s annual Valentine’s Day tea and tag sale goes towards the scholarship fund. Community members are also encouraged to help fund the scholarship by sending a check to
